![]() | Elearning in teaching hydrostaticsTo begin with using ICT was a challenge for me because physics teachers rarely apply modern tools. We are well stocked with a laboratory and that makes most of the physics teachers happy and satisfied. The use of computers in physics classes is extremely rare in Hungary. It is more common even in history lessons. Nowadays the emphasis is on skills and competence over theoretical knowledge. The constructivist learning theory is suitable to develop skills. Due to the information explosion making decisions, what to teach at school, increasingly difficult. That's why it is more useful to teach the methods of aquiring information needed to solve a problem. It is possibly simpler but more time consuming, than transferring knowledge by a lecture. You have to raise a problem, to ask, to know the prior knowledge, the opinion and the attitude of students. This is slower than giving a lecture. I was able to speed up the lessons by using ppt presentations, worksheets, animations and simulations. I tried to make them playful with real-life examples. I had the students work with initiative, which was unusual for them at first. However they enjoyed designing their own submarines and the other open-ended tasks. So have a look at them, try them, and use them. |
