Learning unitsWhat is a learning unit? At school it usually last 45-50 minutes, though there are countries and schools where it is flexible, depending on the subject. According to surveys the students’ attention span is getting shorter, thanks to the Nintendo and music clips. So the shorter units are more suitable. In elearning the 15 minute’s long lessons are accepted. If our learning material is used in blended format, we can split the traditional lesson into two or three shorter units. The structure of a learning unit depends on the learning format (blended, synchronous, asynchronous), as the students need different help. The order of the elements depends on the applied learning theory, so they can be swapped. For example using the constructivist method we first raise a problem then describe the theory. |
