Previous | In rotating frame of referenceIn the rotating frame of reference the weight is the resultant force of the Earth's gravitational pull and the centrifugal force coming from the rotation of the Earth. In the case of stationary objects the weight doesn't change as the distribution of the Earth and its rotation velocity are constant. When an object is moving in the east-west direction, the Coriolis force is present. We get the same result as in the first case: ![]() We can ignore the second term because it is much smaller than the first one and what we get is exactly the vertical component of the Coriolis force. |
